Freezing, Bouting & Recruiting, Oh My!

Special Olympics was our featured charity at the Season opener in February, just hours after the Polar Plunge took place. Not only do we avidly support this wonderful charity, many skaters took the cold jump into Jackson Pool themselves! Our 50/50 raffle, to benefit our local Olympians, totaled $133. Thank you to all who bought tickets and all who packed our awesome venue! As usual, the skating did not disappoint. We strongly believe we have the best evening of entertainment available in this city for the price! Presale is only $10 and just a couple of dollars more at the door. Kids 10 and under are FREE!

We don’t just support Special Olympics once a year, one of our veteran skaters plays with Special Olympics Unified Basketball of Jackson County. Paulie Wana Smackher has played 5 seasons with the Titans as a partner player.  Most of the members of the team have played for years.  They are a combo of sponsors and athletes, some of whom can dunk the basketball! Along with 3 roller derby practices a week, and teaching new skaters the ropes with the other fresh meat coaches, she dedicates a couple of evenings a week on the court and participates in a few  weekend tournaments a season. We think she is pretty amazing!

Speaking of fresh meat, we had a great recruitment night following the bout! We gained a few new skaters,  as well as 3 transfers. One played in Japan! We accept new skaters continuously through the year, so never wait for a recruitment night! Just connect with us on our Facebook page and let us know you’d like to drop in and visit a practice. That’s how my daughter and I began our journey with Sis-Q. These women are so welcoming and warm, they practically had us at hello. We look forward to meeting you and maybe teaching you all about roller derby…or even how to skate as well!Sis Q vs Star Stompers

The bout was a blast, if you were unable to attend…you missed out on a truly great night! The incredible skating and camaraderie between Sis-Q and a young Star Stompers made me smile for days!

This Saturday, come and see what you’ve been missing if you have never attended a bout at the Meat Locker! As the name suggests, it can be chilly inside when it’s cold outside, so dressing in layers is a great idea. We hope to see you as we take on Eugene’s Emerald City Roller Girls!
